Controversy has erupted in Vizag city as residents of East Point Colony accused a local MLA of alleged land encroachment involving a public park. The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Zone-3 responded to these allegations, stating that the open space in question is officially designated as a GVMC park and is under the maintenance of the horticulture department. The commissioner has denied any encroachment.
However, residents have raised concerns about permanent illegal structures — including a worship area, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom — that have allegedly been built inside the park. Locals also claim that two workers employed by an individual, reportedly close to the MLA, have been guarding the area and denying public access.
Political tensions escalated after YSRC corporator Muvala Lakshmi Suresh and others confirmed ongoing encroachments despite prior protests. Allegations point toward JS MLA Murthy Yadav's involvement, as he allegedly pushed for a survey to falsely claim ownership. Opposition parties, including Jana Sena and TDP, demanded an immediate resolution from the Andhra Pradesh government.
The land in question, reportedly measuring over 2,600 square yards, has been the subject of past legal recognition as GVMC property, further intensifying public outrage.
