Mrs. Mukka Sravani Garu Becomes Vizag Mayor, Carrying Forward a Legacy of Public Service

A New Chapter in Visakhapatnam’s Civic Leadership

Mrs. Mukka Sravani Garu has been elected Mayor of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), assuming a key leadership role in guiding the city’s civic administration.

Her election marks an important milestone in her political journey and places her at the forefront of efforts to address Visakhapatnam’s growing urban needs.

Professional Background and Public Service

A doctor of physiotherapy by profession, Mrs. Sravani Garu entered active politics in 2015 by joining the Telugu Desam Party. She was elected corporator from Ward 26 in the 2021 GVMC elections.

Her experience as a corporator provided opportunities to engage with residents and understand ward-level civic concerns. This grassroots experience is expected to be valuable as she takes on responsibilities across the wider municipal corporation.

A Family Legacy of Public Service

Mrs. Sravani Garu comes from a family with a long association with public life. Her father, senior TDP leader Sri Mukka Mutyala Naidu Garu, has been associated with the party since its formation in 1983.

The family’s political background and local connections have been part of her journey, alongside her own professional experience and work in civic politics.

Focus on City Development and Civic Needs

As Mayor, Mrs. Sravani Garu will face the responsibility of addressing the everyday needs of residents across GVMC’s 120 wards. Her stated priorities include improving drinking water supply, sanitation, roads, street lighting, traffic management and public amenities.

Her leadership will be closely watched as Visakhapatnam continues to expand and faces increasing demands on its urban infrastructure.

Looking Ahead

Mrs. Mukka Sravani Garu’s election represents both a personal milestone and an opportunity to serve a city with diverse civic needs. Residents will look to the new Mayor and the GVMC administration for responsive governance, inclusive development and effective delivery of public services.
