Mumbai Local Train Services to Face Disruptions Due to Central Railway’s 63-Hour Mega Block

MUMBAI: Starting from midnight on Thursday, May 30, Central Railway will implement a 63-hour mega block to carry out platform extension works at Thane and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai.

This extensive maintenance and upgrade effort will significantly impact local train services, resulting in the cancellation of 73 outstation trains and 930 suburban locals between Friday, May 31, and Sunday, June 2.

Key Details of the Mega Block:

Duration and Scope:

The block will commence at midnight on Thursday, May 30, and continue for 63 hours, concluding on Sunday, June 2.

The primary aim is to widen platforms 5 and 6 at Thane and extend two platforms at CSMT.

Impact on Train Services:

A total of 161 suburban services will be canceled on Friday, 534 on Saturday, and 235 on Sunday.
444 local train services will be short-terminated across various stations: 7 on Friday, 306 on Saturday, and 131 on Sunday.

Key affected rail linkages include CSMT-Kasara, CSMT-Khopoli, CSMT-Panvel, CSMT-Uran, CSMT-Goregaon, and Thane-Panvel, while the Churchgate-Dahanu line will remain operational.

Measures to Mitigate Disruption:

The railway authorities have urged commuters to avoid travel during this period and have requested establishments to allow employees to work from home to minimize inconvenience.
Additional public buses will be deployed to provide alternate commuting options for affected passengers.

Outstation trains will be short-terminated or originate from alternative stations such as Dadar, Thane, Pune, Panvel, and Nashik.

Official Statements:

Rajneesh Goyal, Divisional Manager of Central Railway, emphasized the necessity of these blocks for long-term infrastructure benefits. He noted that while such extensive work typically spans six months to minimize disruption, the current approach will expedite the process within 63 hours.

“These blocks are essential for infrastructure upgradation and long-term benefits. Platform number 5 and 6 will be widened at Thane starting Thursday midnight, requiring a 63-hour mega block. At CSMT as well, two platforms will be extended starting Friday midnight,” said Mr. Goyal.

Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly and stay informed about real-time updates through official channels to navigate through this period of significant transit modifications effectively.

This initiative underscores Central Railway’s commitment to enhancing passenger convenience and safety through sustained infrastructure improvements.
