NDA Responds to ‘Save Vizag’ Campaign
Political tensions have intensified in Visakhapatnam ahead of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) elections, with NDA leaders responding to the YSR Congress Party’s ‘Save Vizag’ campaign.
The YSRCP launched the campaign on October 25, alleging that the ruling alliance was putting the city’s valuable land, environment and public interests at risk. The opposition party has described the civic election contest as a battle between ‘Save Vizag’ and what it calls ‘Sell Vizag’.
NDA leaders have rejected the opposition’s criticism, arguing that the YSRCP’s own record in government should be examined before it makes claims about protecting the city.
M. Sribharat Criticises Previous Government
Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat criticised the previous YSRCP government over its handling of the city’s development, according to reports covering the political exchange.
NDA leaders argued that Visakhapatnam needs stronger civic infrastructure, improved public services and continued investment. They also highlighted initiatives associated with the current government, including efforts concerning RINL, railway infrastructure and the development of IT industries.
The leaders urged voters to assess the records and proposals of the competing parties before making their choices in the municipal elections.
NDA Leaders Question YSRCP’s Claims
Visakhapatnam North MLA P. Vishnu Kumar Raju challenged the YSRCP’s claim that it was working to protect the city. He criticised the opposition’s campaign and expressed confidence in the NDA alliance’s electoral prospects.
Visakhapatnam South MLA Vamsikrishna Srinivas also criticised the previous government, arguing that the YSRCP had not adequately supported the state’s development during its tenure.
TDP district leaders further questioned the opposition’s position on public assets and land, citing past controversies involving government properties in Visakhapatnam.
These statements reflect the NDA leaders’ political position in the ongoing election campaign. The parties’ competing claims about development, land use and public assets remain central to the debate.
YSRCP’s ‘Save Vizag’ Campaign
The YSRCP introduced its ‘Save Vizag’ campaign to raise concerns about the city’s land, environment, drinking water supply and public resources.
Former ministers Kurasala Kannababu and Gudivada Amarnath, along with party leaders and mayoral candidate Varudu Kalyani, alleged that the ruling alliance was prioritising corporate interests over ordinary residents.
The opposition has also raised concerns about the availability of drinking water, the use of government land and the conduct of the local elections. These are allegations made by the party and should be considered alongside responses from the government and other political stakeholders.
GVMC Elections Bring City Issues into Focus
The exchange highlights the growing political contest ahead of the GVMC elections, with parties seeking to convince voters that their plans are best suited to Visakhapatnam’s future.
Land management, environmental protection, drinking water, infrastructure, sanitation and urban development are among the issues being discussed during the campaign.
Ultimately, voters will decide which political leadership they believe can best address the city’s civic challenges and development priorities.
