Vizag Naval Espionage Case: Two More Suspects Arrested in Bihar

Two More Arrested in Naval Espionage Investigation

Andhra Pradesh Counter Intelligence has arrested two additional suspects in an ongoing investigation into an alleged espionage network targeting Indian naval and defence establishments.

According to ThePrint, the arrests were made during Phase II of Operation Firewall–2026, a multi-state counter-intelligence operation led by the Andhra Pradesh Counter Intelligence Cell.

The accused, identified as Raja Kumar and Aditya Kumar, are residents of Raxaul in Bihar, near the Nepal border. The arrests were carried out in coordination with the Bihar Anti-Terrorism Squad and local police.

Alleged Use of Indian Mobile Numbers

Investigators allege that the two suspects helped Pakistani intelligence operatives activate WhatsApp accounts using one-time passwords (OTPs) associated with Indian mobile numbers.

According to the official statement cited in the report, Raja Kumar allegedly shared OTPs through handlers in Nepal with suspected Pakistani intelligence operatives. Aditya Kumar is alleged to have worked with other individuals in Bihar and communicated with suspected operatives through WhatsApp and encrypted platforms.

Investigators are examining how the accounts were used and whether the alleged activity was connected to attempts to obtain sensitive defence-related information.

Court Remands Both Accused to Judicial Custody

The suspects were produced before a local court, after which investigators obtained transit remand to bring them to Vijayawada along with electronic devices seized during the investigation.

Both men were subsequently remanded to judicial custody until November 10, according to the report.

Authorities are continuing to examine digital evidence and investigate the alleged roles of other individuals connected to the suspected network.

Investigation Linked to Visakhapatnam Naval Establishments

The arrests form part of a wider investigation into suspected espionage activities involving naval and defence establishments, including facilities associated with the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam.

Earlier in the investigation, police arrested a naval employee, Pradip Mukherjee, and civilian contract driver Annam Sai Vara Prasad over their alleged involvement in activities linked to the case.

Investigators have said the broader probe spans multiple states and involves the examination of electronic devices and suspected communication channels.

Investigation Continues

The Counter Intelligence Cell is continuing its investigation under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Official Secrets Act.

The latest arrests represent another development in the ongoing operation. Authorities are still investigating the suspected network, and the allegations against the accused have not been established as guilt by a court.
