New Sand Reaches to be Opened in Manyam District
Visakhapatnam: The Parvathipuram-Manyam district is set to open new sand reaches, ensuring that the public only pays for the costs associated with sand excavation, maintenance, and transportation.
District collector A. Shyam Prasad clarified that the actual sand supply would be provided free of charge.
During a district-level sand committee meeting held at the collector's office on Saturday, Prasad emphasized that officials must strictly monitor to ensure no additional charges are imposed on the public. The committee resolved to commence sand extraction operations within ten days, specifically targeting permitted areas in Katragadda and Bhamini mandals.
Proposals were also made to initiate sand reaches at Neredipalli and Pasupudi. Prasad highlighted the importance of addressing allegations of unauthorized sand mining using permits from Odisha, warning that severe penalties would be enforced and vehicles seized for any unauthorized activities.
Proper management of sand supply, maintenance of accurate records, and identification of the district's sand needs were stressed as essential measures.
Additionally, officials were encouraged to explore new sand reaches along the Vamsadhara river.
Joint Collector SS Shobika noted that, according to government order number 43, the free sand policy has been in effect since July 8. She mentioned that transportation charges, determined by distance, are currently being finalized.
