Visakhapatnam Port Hospital Set for Major Upgrade
Visakhapatnam: The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways has approved a significant upgrade for the Golden Jubilee Hospital at Visakhapatnam Port.
The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) will transform the current 80-bed facility into a 300-bed hospital. This expansion project, estimated at Rs 222 crore, will be executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Despite the ministry’s green light, the decision has met with opposition from the United Port and Dock Employees Union and the VDLB and Dock Workers Union.
They argue that the PPP model will make medical services less accessible for port employees, raising concerns about the potential impact on their healthcare access.
The upgraded hospital aims to provide enhanced medical services to cater to the growing needs of the port community and surrounding areas.
However, the unions are advocating for a model that ensures comprehensive and affordable healthcare remains available to all port workers.
