Visakhapatnam: Several areas in the city are witnessing protests against the location of newly established liquor outlets, with locals voicing concerns about safety and community well-being.
Supported by women's organizations, residents are demanding the immediate removal or relocation of these shops, fearing the negative impact on their neighborhoods.
In Bhupesh Nagar, protests have intensified as residents call for the relocation of a recently opened wine shop. On Wednesday, a group of mostly women held a rally, alleging that the area already has two bars and two wine shops, and the addition of another will only worsen the situation.
Locals claim that women and girls are facing harassment from individuals frequenting these establishments, and the increased presence of liquor shops is contributing to addiction problems among men in the area.
Community members are urging authorities to take swift action to address their concerns and ensure the safety and livelihood of the residents.
