Reservoirs in Visakhapatnam Filled After Heavy Rains
Officials assure there will be no water shortage soon.
Following heavy rains caused by a depression in the Bay of Bengal, reservoirs in Visakhapatnam have received large amounts of water, filling them to capacity. Officials say the city is unlikely to face any water shortages in the near future.
According to the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation's (GVMC) Water Supply Department, the Yeleru reservoir, which provides nearly 40 million gallons per day (MGD) out of the 90 MGD needed for the city, has reached 85.37 meters as of September 11, close to its maximum level of 86.56 meters. The minimum pumping level is 71.50 meters.
