Revitalizing One Town: Five Transformative Developments in Visakhapatnam
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has embarked on a revitalization mission for the One Town area, focusing on infrastructure enhancement and tourism promotion.
Under the stewardship of GVMC Commissioner C.M. Saikanth Varma, several development projects have been initiated, addressing long-standing needs and aspirations of the locality.
1. Road Extensions: Alleviating Traffic Woes
- GVMC Commissioner C.M. Saikanth Varma spearheads the long-awaited road extension project from Lepakshi Junction to Old Post Office Junction, addressing traffic congestion and accommodating the growing population with a budget of ₹30 crore.
- The extension works, spanning 2.1 km, aim to resolve land issues and cater to the demands of local residents and public representatives.
2. Iconic Jagadamba Junction Makeover
- Jagadamba Junction undergoes a striking transformation, featuring island decoration adorned with decorative plants and the introduction of a unique European-style clock tower to allure tourists.
- Median development works between Jagadamba Junction and Turner’s Chowltry Junction enhance the aesthetic appeal of the area, contributing to its charm.
3. Renovation of Indira Priyadarshini Municipal Stadium
- The old stadium receives a much-needed facelift, with a proposed budget of ₹9 crore allocated for renovation works aimed at modernizing infrastructure and facilities.
- Plans include refurbishment of stands, galleries, commentary boxes, and the installation of recreational amenities such as snooker tables, table tennis, and more.
4. Restoration of Historical Landmarks
- Efforts are underway to clear unwanted vegetation and debris at the Regimental Lines Cemetery, restoring its historical significance and repairing the boundary wall.
- Design work is in progress for the revitalization of historical monuments near the old post office, further enhancing the area's heritage appeal.
5. Road Works and Future Plans
- GVMC initiates road works to Sri Satyanarayana Swamy Temple at Isukakonda, focusing on enhancing connectivity and accessibility to key landmarks in the region.
- Additional road projects in Zone IV are slated to commence soon, reflecting the corporation's commitment to comprehensive urban development.
