SIMBEX 23 Concludes: India and Singapore Strengthen Maritime Bonds

The 30th edition of the Singapore India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX) drew to a successful close, reaffirming the robust maritime partnership between India and Singapore.

This significant event saw the participation of Indian Naval Ships Ranvijay (guided-missile Destroyer), Kavaratti (ASW Corvette), submarine Sindhukesari, and a long-range Maritime Patrol Aircraft P8I.

The annual SIMBEX exercise, which commenced in 1994, kicked off with an opening ceremony on September 21, 2023. This ceremony was graced by personnel from both the Indian and Singaporean navies and featured the unveiling of the SIMBEX 30th Edition Logo.

The Harbour Phase of the exercise was marked by a wide array of professional interactions, Subject Matter Expert Exchanges, combined aviation and firefighting/damage control exercises, and the signing of a Joint Standard Operating Procedure (JSOP) on Submarine Rescue.

This significant agreement was inked in the presence of the High Commissioner of India to Singapore and the Singapore Navy Fleet Commander. The Commanding Officers of the Indian Navy contingent also paid their respects in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Kranji War Memorial.

The engagement extended beyond military exercises, encompassing sports exchanges, cross-deck visits, and onboard visits by school children and personnel from the Indian High Commission.

The Sea Phase of SIMBEX 23 unfolded from September 25 to September 28, 2023. During this phase, units from the Indian Navy, in collaboration with RSS Stalwart, Valour, Tenacious, a submarine, Maritime Patrol Aircraft Fokker F-50, and fighter aircraft, engaged in a series of complex maritime security exercises.

These exercises included advanced anti-submarine warfare, surface and air defense maneuvers, tactical maneuvers, and live weapon firings.

SIMBEX 23 culminated on a high note, underscoring the strong bonds of friendship and the high level of interoperability between these two maritime nations. The successful conclusion of this exercise reflects the commitment of India and Singapore to ensuring the security and stability of the maritime domain.
