South India's 1st Corporate Green Building with 10,000+ plants: Symbiosys Technologies
Symbiosys Technologies has turned its office in Visakhapatnam into a greenhouse full of plants. Inspired by the Ted talk of Shri Kamal on indoor Air purification and the article on the Pure air in their Delhi office, Symbiosys Technologies immediately set up a task force to make a similar greenhouse in their office. They identified where these plants were available and researched plants that give the highest amount of oxygen and purify the air.
They analysed the Vedic texts and found that the Neem tree and Tulsi plants are very good at purifying. They followed a detailed NASA study that identified the top 10 air purifying plants to have indoors. Then they set up three perimeter purification systems, with neem and peepal trees on the outer perimeter. Tulsi plants were set up in the second line, along staircases, alleys, and parking places, for purification, along with the plants mentioned in the Ted talks.
Since 90 percent of their working hours are spent inside the office, the focus is on indoor air quality. The plants are placed in all conceivable spaces all over the building. This filtered air is allowed inside huge greenhouses, resulting in mountain-quality air inside the building.
Relation between pure air and productivity in workplaces:
Several scientific studies out there link human health and wellness with cognitive ability. Since in high carbon dioxide environs, the body, especially the brain (which is 2 percent of body mass and yet uses 30 percent of air inhaled), can’t function properly, humans will be the least productive. The COGfx study found that improved indoor environmental quality doubled cognitive function test scores. It also recorded that the most significant improvement in cognitive function occurred with crisis response, information usage, and strategy. The Harvard study on this found that with lowered carbon dioxide levels coupled with lowered pollutants in buildings, cognitive scores were higher than in conventional buildings. This automatically improves productivity.
In a building of 400 people, they have close to 10,000 plus plants, making their office one of the green buildings, in the country, with high oxygen percentage inside office spaces also.
Various studies have said that productivity increases by 20%.
Energy consumption decreases by 20%, and headaches and eye strain reduce by over 24%. Lung capacity also increases when oxygen absorption rises.
On average, a person drinks only 4 litres of water daily but breathes 11000 litres of air daily. Working in a clean, oxygen-rich environment helps boost brain and lung functions.
Symbiosys Technologies have the highest amounts of oxygen-rich plants in the city of Visakhapatnam and the entire state. They are the top most environmentally responsible company in India with a significant amount of ecological balance in their office premises.
12 NASA recommended air-purifying plants that you must have in your house/ Office:
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration conducted the NASA Clean Air Study to demonstrate the effectiveness of particular plants in purifying the air. Not only do they Jazz up your office or home, but they also clean the toxins from the air simultaneously. These are the 12 air-purifying houseplants that NASA recommends.
