The Future of Vizag's Night Food Court Remains Uncertain

Vendors Resist Closure as Visitors Continue to Flock Despite Eviction Notices

In September 2023, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Council decided to close the Night Food Court on Old Jail Road due to numerous complaints about poor sanitation, traffic congestion, public inconvenience, and unauthorized hawkers.

The council planned to relocate the food court to a new site with recognized vendors and issued eviction notices to the current vendors, giving them 10 days to vacate.

However, a year later, the Night Food Court is still operating at the same location, attracting large crowds daily. The number of vendors has nearly doubled, and some vendors continue to oppose the closure, highlighting the ongoing challenges between the authorities and the local community.
