Today, the Hindustan Shipyard Ltd., Visakhapatnam will launch two diving support vessels for the Indian Navy
Today, Hindustan Shipyard Ltd., Visakhapatnam, will launch two diving support vessels (Nistar and Nipun) built for the Indian Navy. Admiral R. Hari Kumar, Chief of Naval Staff, is the event's, Chief Guest. The vessels will be launched by Smt. Kala Hari Kumar, President of the Naval Wives Welfare Association (NWWA), in the presence of the Chief of the Naval Staff and other senior officers from the Indian Navy and Ministry of Defence.
This Diving Support Vessel (DSV) is the first indigenously designed vessel of its kind. The DSV, with blue water capability built by HSL, will be used for deep sea diving and submarine rescue operations. It has a length of 120m and can accommodate 215 personnel. It is capable of sustained operational deployments for up to 60 days. It can reach a top speed of 18 knots thanks to two main engines.
The majority of DSV key equipment has been procured from more than 120 MSME vendors across India. Hindustan Shipyard Limited would be catapulted into the league of warship builders for the Indian Navy with this launch.
