Two Restaurants in Visakhapatnam Booked for Using Hazardous Cooking Oil
Shian Train Resto, located in Chitralaya Complex near Jagadamba Centre, and The Vizag’s Chemistry restaurant on VIP Road in Siripuram, have been booked under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
This action was taken for using cooking oil with high total polar compounds (TPC), according to Food Safety Officer G.V. Appa Rao from the Visakhapatnam Division-III.
The food samples collected from these establishments revealed a TPC value exceeding 36%. Oils with a TPC value above 25% are deemed unsafe for cooking, particularly for frying, due to the heightened risk of cancer and digestive system ailments, as stated by Mr. Appa Rao.
