Visakhapatnam: Call to Save the Environment

Visakhapatnam: The HPCL-Visakh Refinery took significant steps to promote environmental protection on World Environment Day by organizing a range of activities aimed at raising awareness about this crucial issue.

This year, the theme centered around ‘land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.’ To honor this theme, the refinery hosted a walkathon and a clean-up drive at Yarada Beach.

Additionally, community awareness campaigns, including skits, songs, and street plays, were conducted to engage and educate the public. To encourage sustainable practices, cloth bags and saplings were distributed to residents in various neighborhoods.

A series of competitions were also organized for employees and their families, encompassing quizzes, slogan and poetry writing, painting, photography, reels, and meme creation. These events aimed to foster creativity and highlight the importance of environmental conservation.

As part of the day's celebrations, eco-friendly water bottles were distributed to contract workers. The refinery also launched a significant plantation initiative with the ambitious goal of planting 26,500 saplings in the surrounding areas.

During the event, R. Ramakrishnan, Executive Director of Visakh Refinery, emphasized the importance of environmental protection and outlined the measures the company has implemented to support this cause. P. Veerabhadra Rao, Executive Director of VRMP, and Abhishek Trivedi, Executive Director of VREP, led a pledge with 500 participants, reaffirming their commitment to environmental sustainability.

The day's activities concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners of the various competitions and the further distribution of saplings to employees, reinforcing the collective effort towards a greener future.
