Visakhapatnam Mayor and GVMC Commissioner shares the importance of Eco-Friendly Commuting for Pollution Control and suggests to use public transports.
In a proactive move to combat rising pollution levels in Visakhapatnam, the city's Mayor and Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner are urging residents to embrace public transport as a means of reducing environmental impact.
The Mayor emphasized that a significant reduction in the city's pollution could be achieved if residents opted for public transport at least once a week.
To set an example, she personally traveled in a Road Transport Corporation (RTC) bus from her camp office to the GVMC office on Monday.
Simultaneously, GVMC Commissioner CM Saikanth Varma demonstrated his commitment to the cause by commuting to the GVMC Office on a bicycle.
Both the Mayor and Commissioner underscored the urgency of adopting eco-friendly measures to curb the escalating pollution levels.
They announced a collective effort within the GVMC administration, declaring that all GVMC employees would commit to using public transport at least once weekly.
This initiative aligns with the GVMC's broader Eco Vizag development agenda.
As part of their commitment to environmental preservation, GVMC plans to implement various awareness measures through its Eco-Zero pollution programs.
The Mayor and Commissioner called upon government authorities, private offices, educational institutions, industrial establishments, voluntary organizations, and citizens to cooperate in pollution control measures.
The officials also made a public appeal, urging individuals to contribute to pollution reduction by utilizing the public transport system at least once a week.
This collective effort, they believe, will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the environment and combating pollution in Visakhapatnam.
