Job Promise Leads to Military Recruitment Allegation
A family in Visakhapatnam is seeking urgent assistance to bring their son home after he allegedly became part of the Russian military following a job offer.
Jetti Vamsi, a youth from Duvvada in Visakhapatnam, reportedly travelled to Russia in search of employment. According to his family and video messages shared by the youths, they were promised food-packing work but were later recruited into the Russian military.
Youths Fear Deployment to Warfront
Vamsi and other youths have reportedly sent video messages seeking help, expressing concern that they could be deployed to the frontline in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
Reports say five youths from north Andhra travelled to Russia for work. Three of them were reportedly sent towards the frontline nearly two months ago, and their whereabouts remain unknown. Vamsi and another youth, identified as Sateesh, have reportedly been traced through video messages.
The youths also alleged that they were made to sign documents in Russian without understanding their contents.
Family Appeals for Government Intervention
Vamsi’s mother, Appalakonda, has appealed to the Central and Andhra Pradesh governments to help secure her son’s safe return. She has also sought assistance from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and IT Minister Nara Lokesh.
Nara Lokesh has expressed concern and said his office would coordinate with the concerned authorities to facilitate the safe and speedy return of the youths.
Authorities Asked to Facilitate Rescue
The Embassy of India in Moscow has reportedly taken up the matter with the Russian Ministry of Defence and requested the release of the youths from military service. Further updates are awaited.
The allegations underline the risks faced by Indians travelling abroad through questionable employment offers. Authorities have been urged to investigate the recruitment process and assist the affected families.
