Vizag Artist Crafts Unique Portrait of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant Using Millets

Visakhapatnam: Moka Vijay Kumar, an innovative artist from Visakhapatnam, has captured the attention of art enthusiasts by creating a remarkable portrait of Anant Ambani and his fiancée, Radhika Merchant, using millets.

This unique artwork was inspired by the couple's recent pre-wedding reception, which was a star-studded event attended by numerous celebrities. Vijay Kumar plans to gift this special portrait to the couple soon.

The idea for this extraordinary creation struck Vijay Kumar after he watched video footage of the couple’s first pre-wedding event. The celebrations, which have taken place in various countries, inspired him to commemorate the occasion through his distinctive artistic style.

Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for increased millet consumption in 2023, the year declared as the International Year of Millets, Vijay Kumar has been perfecting his craft. To date, he has created 270 millet portraits, featuring national and international politicians, festivals, and notable events such as the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.

His impressive portfolio also includes portraits of agricultural ministers from 38 countries presented during the G20 Summit in Hyderabad, and special portraits related to farmers' work for the Prime Ministers of 20 countries at the G20 New Delhi summit.

At 50 years old, Vijay Kumar works as a Technician One (TH-I) in the mechanical wing of the Waltair Railway Division in East Coast Railway. He stands out as the only artist in India creating portraits with millets.

His latest work is a tribute to Anant Ambani, known for his compassionate efforts in wildlife conservation, including the creation of a forest area funded by him to save and provide medical care for injured elephants.

Vijay Kumar’s millet portraits are not just art; they are a statement about the health benefits and importance of millets. He explains his process: "I never use color in portraits, but the portraits become colorful through the different hues of the millets.

I start by outlining the image with a pencil on imported watercolor paper, and then I meticulously paste the millet grains onto the image. A frame is then constructed to prevent air infiltration after pest control is completed."

By blending traditional artistry with a modern medium, Vijay Kumar's work is a celebration of culture, health, and creativity, bringing attention to the versatile and nutritious qualities of millets. His millet portrait of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant is not just a gift, but a symbol of his dedication to both art and the promotion of a healthy, sustainable future.
