Vizag Square: A City Sensation, but Traffic Police on Edge
Visakhapatnam's Vizag Square, an exclusive pedestrian space inspired by tactical urbanism and established by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), has gained massive popularity in the city.
However, the enthusiastic response from the public has sparked concerns among the traffic police, who fear potential traffic congestion issues.
The vibrant and creatively adorned Vizag Square, complete with colorful lights and a designated selfie spot, has captivated the attention of people traveling through the Siripuram route. Some motorists have been compelled to stop on the road to catch a glimpse of this intriguing space.
In response, the traffic police have deployed a constable to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent road obstruction. Furthermore, visitors to Vizag Square have been found parking their vehicles in no-parking zones, posing an additional challenge for the authorities.
A senior traffic police official expressed apprehensions about the future, pondering the impact on traffic flow once Vizag Square is fully operational. The official questioned the decision to set up the recreation zone in one of the city's busiest areas and suggested alternative locations within the vacant spaces of Andhra University limits. The need for a dedicated parking area for Vizag Square visitors was also emphasized.
Notwithstanding these concerns, Vizag Square has become the talk of the town, attracting people of all ages who gather in the evenings to enjoy quality time with family and friends over a cup of coffee or an ice cream. The charming atmosphere, coupled with the presence of furniture and the selfie spot, has enticed social media influencers who are actively creating reels and sharing their experiences with their followers.
As anticipation builds for Vizag Square's official launch, the city awaits how authorities will manage its undeniable popularity while mitigating potential traffic challenges.
