The Dolphin Nose’slighthouse was constructed on the hills of Yarada in the mid-sixties. An even earlier one stood nearby, but it was destroyed by the hurricane of 1874. It was built sometime around the 19th century, with the year 1860 being the most recent estimate. The original lighthouse's traces can still be found in the basement's ruins. 

The foothills of Dolphins Nose have also witnessed a famous naval battle. The battle took place in the year 1804 between the French and the British. Thus, it holds great stories and historical value. From the summit of Dolphin Nose hill, the current lighthouse aids in cyclone tracking.

Entry Fee and Timings of Dolphin’s Nose Lighthouse, Visakhapatnam

The cost of entry to the Dolphin's Nose Lighthouse in Visakhapatnam is INR 10 for Indians and INR 25 for outsiders. It is open to the public from 3 to 5 p.m. on all days of the week. You can also bring your children because the lighthouse charges INR 3 per person for youngsters aged 3 to 11. The cost of a still camera is Rs 20 and the cost of a video camera is Rs 25.
