The glory of Vizag: The Visakha Museum

Visakhapatnam is a prominent tourist destination with a history stretching back to 260 BC. One of the most popular sites, the Visakha Museum, has taken on the enormous job of conserving Vizag's historical documents.

The Visakha Museum, built on the RK beach road, attracts a great number of people who come to witness the ancient artefacts and pieces of art of the Kalinga Andhra region. It was formerly a run-down Dutch bungalow on the beach road, but it has since been repaired and transformed into an important museum.

The Visakha Museum has a huge collection of antiquities relating to Vizag, as well as historical artefacts from other nations. Armour suits, muzzleloading guns, steel bows, handguns and revolvers, daggers and swords, Greek/Roman and Viking helmets, stuffed animals, crockery, coins, silk costumes, manuscripts, diaries, scrapbooks, and maps are only a few of the museum's remarkable items.

Tourists who want to understand more about the heritage of Vizag's lovely city should visit the Visakha Museum. With its wonderful collections portraying Vizag's historical age, the Visakha museum is truly an extra appeal to our city of destiny.

The coconut split by Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister during the launch of the ship S.S. Jala Usha is also kept in the Visakha Museum. In this museum, you may see images of Mahatma Gandhi walking with other notable Vizag characters, as well as the desk used by Gandhiji and later by Sri Tenneti Viswanadham.

The museum is split into two parts, the naval museum and the heritage museum. The naval museum consists of all the ancient parts used in the naval base and the history of the past of our Indian navy. All the information about navy wars, INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant is up for all the enthusiasts who want to know and explore the rich history it holds.

The other part is the heritage museum which is divided into two floors. The ground floor has all the ancient artefacts and statues dating from early civilization. The first and second floors contain the oldest and recent art pieces, Red magazine’s biggest Indian flag, tribal and wax statues.
