Andhra Pradesh to Launch New Tourism Policy by April 2025

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh’s tourism sector is set for a major revival with the introduction of a new tourism policy, expected to be in place by April 2025, announced Tourism and Culture Minister Kandula Durgesh at the Travel and Tourism Summit organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Visakhapatnam. “With industry status recently granted to the tourism sector, Andhra Pradesh is on track to reclaim its lost tourism appeal,” the minister stated.

Key Highlights of the New Policy:
- Industry Benefits Extended to Tourism: As an industry, tourism in Andhra Pradesh will enjoy incentives traditionally offered to other industries. Special benefits are planned for new tourism projects, with a focus on generating a 20% increase in employment across the sector.
- Specialized Tourism Circuits: The policy will emphasize diverse circuits, including eco-tourism, spiritual journeys, hill stations, and scenic tours, with the goal of positioning Andhra Pradesh as a top choice for domestic and international visitors. The state aims to capitalize on its natural beauty, especially by enhancing locations like Rushikonda Beach, the only beach in Andhra Pradesh with Blue Flag certification.
- Focus on Visakhapatnam as a Tourism Hub: Plans include developing Visakhapatnam as a prime tourism destination, extending eatery hours until midnight, and introducing new cruise routes to Sri Lanka.

In his address, Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat outlined the ongoing updates to the tourism master plan, enhancing infrastructure and connectivity to make the region more visitor-friendly. As part of these efforts, GITAM University has launched a training program for 2,000 individuals in hospitality to ensure a high standard of service and cleanliness, adding to the visitor experience.

CII Andhra Pradesh Chairman V Murali Krishna reported an 8% annual rise in domestic tourism and a 3.2% increase in foreign visitors to the state over the past two years. CII Visakhapatnam Chairman Rajesh Grandhi highlighted recent government initiatives, praising the expansion of tourism resources that showcase Visakhapatnam’s natural beauty and cultural attractions.

To further develop beach tourism, Minister Durgesh urged the introduction of attractions such as luxury cruises, meditation decks, tribal markets, beachside shopping, and floating hotels. Additionally, a Cabinet sub-committee involving the ministries of forestry, tourism, and endowments will oversee integrated tourism growth.

CEO of Suresh Productions, Daggubati Suresh Babu, joined other industry leaders in supporting Andhra Pradesh’s bold vision for a thriving, sustainable tourism industry.
