Caravan Tourism Project Resumes in Visakhapatnam
The caravan tourism project in Visakhapatnam is gaining momentum again, with efforts underway to expedite its progress. Authorities are identifying suitable locations for caravan parks and scheduling coordination meetings with tourism, travel associations, transport, and other relevant departments next week.
The Tourism Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tours & Travels Association. Under this agreement, travel associations will provide caravan vehicles, while the Tourism Department will supply infrastructure and facilities on a revenue-sharing basis.
Currently, the department is pinpointing three to four scenic spots to establish caravan parks where tourists can park, cook, and rest. Potential locations include a hilltop site (Hill View Caravan Park) and a beachside spot (Sea Caravan Park) along the Tenneti Park to Bheemunipatnam stretch. Another proposed site is near Anjoda in Araku Valley.
"Caravan tourism is very popular in foreign countries, and Kerala was the first state in India to initiate such a project. These vehicles come equipped with amenities like toilets, kitchens, beds, and TVs," said Srinivasa Pani, Regional Director of the Tourism Department.
However, some permissions from the Transport Department regarding vehicle design and route permissions are still pending. A coordination meeting is expected next week to discuss the project's progress.
In addition to the caravan tourism project, other pending tourism projects are also set to accelerate. District Collector Harendhira Prasad participated in a review meeting to assess the progress of existing projects, including a floating restaurant on the abandoned Bangladesh ship MV Maa near Tenneti Park.
Authorities are awaiting approvals from the Forest Department and Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) authorities. The Tourism Department is also looking to revive the 40-seat 'Visakha Boating' project near the dry dock at the fishing harbor.
Water sports activities at Rushikonda are slated for enhancement, with plans to introduce five to six-seater speed boats in addition to the existing 2+1 speed boats currently operating on the beach.
