Visakhapatnam Pays Tribute to Kargil War Heroes on Vijay Diwas

On the solemn occasion of the 25th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) held a Wreath Laying ceremony on Friday, July 26, at the 'Victory at Sea' War Memorial, RK Beach in Visakhapatnam. Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, Chief of Staff, led the ceremony by placing floral wreaths in honor of the brave Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation. The event included a parade by a 50-man guard and a two-minute silence to pay tribute to the soldiers' bravery and valor.

Other dignitaries who placed wreaths included Shanka Brata Bagchi, Commissioner of Police, Visakhapatnam; Vice Admiral VK Namballa (Retd), President of the Navy Foundation; Brigadier JK Barua; Wing Commander P Shyam Kumar; and G Satyananadam, Zilla Sainik Welfare Officer.

Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, commemorates the gallantry and valor demonstrated by the Indian Armed Forces during the Kargil War.

The battle, fought in the challenging terrain of the Kargil-Drass sector of Ladakh, saw Indian soldiers braving extreme weather conditions and steep icy slopes to defeat the enemy and reclaim Indian territory. The day marks the victory of Operation Vijay, a significant military triumph over Pakistan during the Kargil War.
