Heroic Linemen Restore Power by Crossing Swollen Stream in Visakhapatnam

VISAKHAPATNAM: In a remarkable display of bravery, two employees of AP Eastern Power Distribution Limited (APEPDCL) risked their lives to restore electricity to the rain-battered Alluri Sitarama Raju district.

The workers undertook the perilous task of crossing a swollen stream by walking on suspended electrical wires to bring back power to the villages of Sunnampadu and Devarapalli in the Maredmilli, Rampchodavaram Division.

The power supply in several areas within the Rajahmundry circle had been disrupted due to heavy rainfall, with most of the issues being resolved by Tuesday.

However, on Wednesday, bamboo canes and fallen trees on the feeder line from Maredumilli forest to Sunnampadu village caused an outage, affecting over 800 residents in Sunnampadu and Devarapalli.

The swollen stream separating the villages from the Maredmilli forest area posed a significant obstacle, as there was no bridge for crossing.

Junior Lineman (JLM) Kura Ramayya and Franchise worker Mettu Neelanna Dora took on the daring task of walking across the electrical wires to reach the villages and restore the power supply.

TVSN Murthy, the Rajahmundry Circle EPDCL superintendent engineer, highlighted the extraordinary effort, noting the workers' commitment despite the dangerous conditions.

The residents and the sarpanch of Sunnampadu, V Lacchireddy, praised the electrical staff for their courageous actions in overcoming the flooded stream to restore electricity to their communities.
