Concerns Mount Over Rising Incidence of Premature Heart Attacks in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: Alarming statistics have emerged, revealing that in India, every minute, four individuals between the ages of 30 and 50 suffer fatal heart attacks, and a startling 25 percent of those who succumb to heart attacks are under the age of 35.
Experts warn that the increasing prevalence of premature heart attacks among the younger population is a cause for serious concern.
Factors such as smoking tobacco, excessive alcohol consumption, lack of exercise, and poor sleep quality contribute to the aggravation of these conditions, explains Dr. K Narayana Raju, a consultant interventional cardiologist at KIMS Icon Hospital.
Disturbingly, statistics indicate that individuals who work approximately 55 hours a week face a 33 percent higher risk of heart attacks compared to those who work between 35 and 40 hours, a risk that affects both men and women.
The rising stress of work and over-dependence on electronic devices disrupt the body's internal systems, as noted by the consultant interventional cardiologist.
Dr. Narayana Raju emphasizes the importance of regular heart check-ups, especially for individuals diagnosed with hypertension, diabetes, chronic alcoholism, or those who smoke. High blood pressure in teenagers and young adults can lead to the development of other serious health conditions, he warns.
Recognizing certain critical symptoms is crucial: chest heaviness or discomfort, shortness of breath, dizziness, profuse sweating, nausea, confusion, and an increased heart rate should never be ignored. Dr. K. Narayana Raju underscores the significance of lifestyle modifications as a key factor in reducing risk factors and preventing premature heart attacks.
