A constable from the III-town police station, S. Apparao, was assaulted while on duty at a picket in the China Waltair area. The incident occurred on Saturday night when a drunken individual argued with the police.
As the man was being taken into custody, he injured Constable Apparao on the road. Apparao was promptly taken to a private hospital for treatment.
On Sunday, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha and City Police Commissioner Shanka Brata Bagchi visited the hospital to check on the constable's condition. The home minister emphasized that the government will take stringent action against those who break the law. "Violators pose a threat to society, and strict measures will be enforced," Anitha stated. She also mentioned the state government's commitment to making Visakhapatnam a ganja-free district, with a 100-day action plan in place.
The police commissioner assured Apparao's family that the department would support his recovery and closely monitor his health condition.
