Decline in Malaria Cases Marks Progress in Visakhapatnam District
In a significant stride towards the 'zero-malaria' goal, Visakhapatnam district witnesses a decline in malaria cases, according to the District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO), Jagadeeswara Rao.
On World Malaria Day, an awareness rally organized by the Health Department emphasized the importance of preventive measures.
The event, which took place near Bullayya College, aimed to educate citizens about the dangers of mosquito proliferation.
Dr. Jagadeeswara Rao attributed the decrease in malaria cases to heightened awareness and diligent anti-larval operations carried out by the health department staff.
He outlined a comprehensive plan aimed at completely eradicating malaria from the region.
Encouraging proactive measures, the DM&HO urged residents to utilize mosquito nets and designate Fridays as 'dry days' to eliminate stagnant water from potential breeding sites like flower pots and water storage containers.
While acknowledging a few reported cases in specific districts, Zonal Malaria Officer Santhi Kumari highlighted a marked decline in malaria instances across Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam districts.
The rally saw participation from various officials including District Malaria Officer Tulasi, sub-unit officer Nagesh Patnaik, and GVMC supervisor Srinivasa Rao, underscoring collective efforts in combating malaria and promoting public health awareness.
