In a bid to evaluate progress, tackle challenges, and promote collaborative solutions for improved railway operations, M.K. Behera, General Manager of East Coast Railway (ECoR), conducted an extensive inspection of various railway facilities in Visakhapatnam.

He was joined by Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Saurabh Prasad and other senior officials from both the headquarters and the Waltair Division.

Key Site Visits and Evaluations

Mr. Behera’s inspection itinerary included the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) and the Visakha Container Terminal, where he reviewed the progress of ongoing railway projects.

The team meticulously examined the siding and loading points, as well as other critical locations within the port. 

Deputy Chairman of VPA, Durgesh Kumar Dubey, provided a detailed briefing on the port's railway operations and infrastructure.

He emphasized the need for increased rake allocations to boost cargo volumes and highlighted the ongoing upgrades to railway electrification.

In response, Mr. Behera assured full support for VPA’s railway operations.

 Inspection of Vadlapudi Wagon Workshop

The GM’s inspection also extended to the wagon workshop at Vadlapudi, Visakhapatnam. Here, he evaluated the various facilities, maintenance activities, and development initiatives in place.

Chief Project Manager S.K. Senapati briefed Mr. Behera on the maintenance operations at the workshop, offering a comprehensive overview of current efforts and future plans.

Collaboration with Adani Gangavaram Port

Mr. Behera also met with officials from Adani Gangavaram Port to discuss mutual interests. During this visit, the team inspected the sidings at the port and evaluated various capacity augmentation projects.

Discussions with the port’s CEO, Amit Malik, focused on enhancing efficiency, improving throughput, reducing rake detention, and other pertinent issues.

Strategic Meetings and Future Plans

Concluding his visit, Mr. Behera held a meeting with divisional officers at the DRM’s office to discuss various developmental activities and ongoing projects within the division.

According to a statement by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager K. Saandeep, the ECoR GM’s visit was aimed at fostering partnerships, enhancing infrastructure, and improving railway operations for the collective benefit of all stakeholders and the region’s socio-economic development.
