Empowering the Differently Abled: Visakhapatnam Police Chief Addresses 'Disha Divyang Suraksha'
In a bid to ensure the safety and well-being of visually and hearing impaired individuals, Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner, A. Ravi Shankar, spearheaded a special initiative titled 'Disha Divyang Suraksha'.
During a designated program held between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., the Commissioner actively engaged with the community by fielding calls received on the toll-free helpline.
Assisted by a dedicated helper, who facilitated communication, Mr. Ravi Shankar attentively listened to the grievances and concerns expressed by the differently-abled individuals.
Over the course of the half-hour program, a total of seven complaints were received, with notable cases originating from Prakasam district and Anakapalli.
Among the grievances highlighted were instances of domestic violence, financial fraud, and educational obstacles.
A woman from Prakasam district sought intervention regarding domestic abuse, while another individual from Anakapalli reported being defrauded of ₹80,000 by an unscrupulous individual.
Additionally, a student from Sabbavaram voiced concerns over being unjustly prohibited from attending college to pursue her degree.
Responding promptly to the grievances, Mr. Ravi Shankar directed the relevant authorities to expedite necessary actions to address the issues raised by the callers.
It was announced that such interactive sessions under the 'Disha Divyang Suraksha' initiative will be held on the 2nd and 15th of every month.
Differently-abled individuals can reach out to the Commissioner's office by dialing the toll-free numbers: 7337324466 or 7337434422, during the specified time window from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m.
These regular sessions aim to provide a platform for the differently-abled community to voice their concerns and seek timely assistance from law enforcement authorities, ensuring their safety and security in society.
