Empowering Women in Cardiology: Insights from the 16th National Conference

The 16th National Conference of Women in Cardiology Care (WCC) is set to take place in Visakhapatnam from March 23rd, organized by Women in Cardiology and Related Sciences.

This conference serves as a pivotal platform for women cardiologists and researchers globally to exchange insights, present research papers, and delve into the latest advancements in cardiovascular medicine.

Dr. Sujatha Vipperla, the organizing secretary of WCC 2024, highlighted the significance of this two-day event.

Women cardiologists and researchers from diverse backgrounds, including India, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, and the US, will come together to share their expertise and experiences.

Live transmissions of two cases from international centers and presentations of four other cases by Indian cardiologists will be featured during the conference.

Additionally, young women cardiologists will showcase debates, lectures, and complex cases, fostering an environment of learning and collaboration.

A key aspect of the conference is the Prajwallika Scholarship Program, which focuses on research programs dedicated to studying cardiac issues specific to women.

Dr. Sujatha emphasized the importance of addressing the gender disparity in cardiology, where only a small percentage of practicing and interventional cardiologists are women despite the majority of medical graduates being female.

Furthermore, the conference aims to shed light on the neglect of cardiovascular disease in women. Dr. Sujatha highlighted the tendency for women to present late at hospitals, remain undiagnosed, untreated, and underrepresented in clinical trials.

By raising awareness and improving care for women patients, the conference strives to make significant strides in tackling cardiovascular disease among women.

Through collaboration, research, and advocacy, the 16th National Conference of Women in Cardiology Care endeavors to empower women in the field of cardiology and enhance the overall cardiovascular healthcare for women globally.
