Enhancing Criminal Justice: The Role of Forensic Experts in Visakhapatnam

In Visakhapatnam, the significance of forensic medicine in the realm of criminal justice was underscored by Andhra Pradesh High Court Judge Justice K Manmadha Rao during the inauguration of the Academy of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology's fifth state conference.

Justice Rao emphasized the pivotal role of forensic evidence in criminal proceedings, highlighting its recognition by the judiciary.

Addressing the audience at the event held at GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR), Justice Rao expressed concern over the escalating crime rate and emphasized the importance of well-trained forensic medical experts in aiding the judiciary to make informed decisions.

He stressed that the scientific evidence provided by forensic medicine professionals is crucial for ensuring justice.

G Veera Nagi Reddy, a forensic medicine expert and the PG Academics Director at Viswabharathi Medical College, advocated for allowing private medical colleges and hospitals with adequate resources and expertise to conduct autopsies.

Reddy pointed out that such a move would not only benefit the justice system but also provide valuable learning opportunities for undergraduate medical students.

Expanding on the need for legal education among forensic medicine students, GIMSR Dean SP Rao highlighted the importance of integrating legal aspects into the curriculum.

This interdisciplinary approach, he argued, would better equip future forensic experts to navigate the complexities of the legal system while contributing effectively to the administration of justice.
