India-US Joint Exercise Tiger Triumph Kicks Off for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief
The Bilateral Tri-Service Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Amphibious Exercise, named Tiger Triumph, between India and the United States, set sail on Tuesday aboard INS Jalashwa in Visakhapatnam.
This exercise marks a significant collaboration showcasing the robust strategic partnership between the two nations, with a primary objective of sharing best practices and standard operating procedures for multinational HADR operations.
Scheduled to run until March 25, the harbor phase of the exercise will host various activities including pre-sail discussions, expert exchanges on professional subjects, and discussions on planning and execution procedures.
Additionally, friendly sports events are organized to foster camaraderie among the armed forces personnel participating from both countries.
The sea phase of the exercise, slated from March 26 to March 31, will witness the establishment of a joint command and control center and a joint relief and medical camp.
Simultaneously, a planning and coordination exercise will refine standard operating procedures to ensure seamless coordination between the forces of both nations.
The Indian Navy's participation includes a landing platform dock, landing ship tanks, guided missile frigate, long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft, and other integral assets.
The Indian Army contributes with an infantry battalion group and mechanized forces, while the Indian Air Force deploys medium lift aircraft, transport helicopters, and a rapid action medical team.
Special operations forces from all three services of India will also actively participate in the exercise. The US Task Force includes a US Navy landing platform dock, a destroyer, maritime reconnaissance, medium lift aircraft, and US Marines.
The US delegation is led by Ambassador Eric Garcetti, US Ambassador to India, Rear Admiral Joaquin J Martinez de Pinillos, Reserve Vice Commander US Seventh Fleet, and Captain Michel C Brandt, Commanding Officer USS Somerset.
Representing the Indian Navy are Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Rajesh Dhankar, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, and Capt Sandeep Biswal, Commanding Officer INS.
