Father-Son Duo Sentenced to Life Imprisonment in 2017 Visakhapatnam Murder Case



Court Orders Rs 5.5 Lakh in Compensation to Victim's Family

VISAKHAPATNAM: In a significant verdict, the principal district and sessions judge of Visakhapatnam, Alapati Giridhar, has sentenced a father and son to life imprisonment for their involvement in a 2017 murder case.

A third individual, a woman, was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Additionally, fines totaling Rs 5.5 lakh were imposed on the convicts to be paid to the family of the deceased.

According to public prosecutor Kandregula Jagadeeswara Rao, the crime occurred on June 4, 2017, in Vizag city. The assailants, S. Venkat (50), his son S. Nagaraju (26), and his niece S. Gowri (22), all residents of Potnuru village under Padmanabham police station limits, attacked M. Pentayya, Chinna Rao, and Saloni following a dispute.

The victims were hospitalized, but Pentayya succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

 


"Based on a complaint from the victim’s family, the police registered a case against Venkat, Nagaraju, and Gowri and filed a charge-sheet," said Kandregula Jagadeeswara Rao. Following a series of trials, the court found Venkat and Nagaraju guilty of the murder and sentenced them to life imprisonment.

Gowri, who was convicted of provoking the attack, received a 10-year prison sentence.

The court also mandated that Venkat and Nagaraju each pay Rs 1.5 lakh in fines, while Gowri was fined Rs 2.5 lakh. The total amount of Rs 5.5 lakh is to be paid to the family of the deceased, providing some financial relief following their loss.
