Fierce Contest for GVMC Standing Committee Seats: 15 Nominations Filed
VISAKHAPATNAM: The competition for the Standing Committee posts in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has reached a fever pitch, with 15 candidates filing nominations for 10 positions by Monday.
Initially, no nominations were submitted when the period opened on July 22, but interest surged over the weekend.
The contenders include a mix of political affiliations: nine candidates from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), five from the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), and one independent candidate. Among the YSRCP nominees are Akkaramani Rohini (12th ward), Reyyi Venkata Ramana (51), Imran Mohammed (66), J Bhipin Kumar Jain (31), and Murru Vani (57). The TDP's slate includes S Rajasekhar (56), Bommidi Ramana (90), Nolli Nookaratnam (19), Galla Polipalli (63), Pilla Mangamma (7), Balla Srinivasa Rao (94), Lakshmibai Puli (75), Golagani Veerarao (27), and P Varaha Lakhsmi Narasimham (98). Villuri Bhaskara Rao (35) is the lone independent candidate.
Throughout the weekend, TDP, Janasena, and BJP leaders held meetings to finalize their alliance candidates, solidifying the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition's strategy.
This alliance has gained momentum with the defection of some YSRCP corporators, creating a competitive scenario as both the NDA bloc and YSRCP vie for control of the committee.
Rumors suggest further shifts may occur, though confirmations are pending. The final deadline for submitting nominations is Tuesday, July 30.
