Ganja Cultivation Discovered on Hill Behind KGH in Visakhapatnam
In a shocking discovery, the Visakhapatnam police have uncovered large-scale ganja cultivation on the hilltop behind King George Hospital (KGH), located in the heart of the city. The police report that the illegal plantation has likely been active for the past year. Notably, the area falls under the jurisdiction of the Indian Navy, raising additional concerns.
Several youths have been detained in connection with this clandestine operation, and the police suspect an organized gang is behind it. City Police Commissioner Shankabrata Bagchi, who recently visited the KGH women’s hostel, grew suspicious of the nearby hill area and directed the One Town police to conduct a thorough inspection. Officers were taken aback when they discovered ganja plants thriving on the hilltop, concealed in plain sight.
Despite ongoing efforts to curb the ganja trade, smuggling remains a persistent challenge in Visakhapatnam. Following State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha's appointment, the city police implemented a 100-day action plan to tackle the issue. However, cases of ganja seizures continue to be reported regularly across the district, underscoring the scale of the problem and the challenges faced by law enforcement.
