Visakhapatnam | April 19, 2025 — In a major political shake-up in Andhra Pradesh, Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari has been officially ousted from her position as Mayor of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) following the successful passage of a no-confidence motion.
The motion, spearheaded by members of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), received the backing of 74 corporators and ex-officio members—well above the required majority. The council session began at 11:00 AM, during which the supporting signatures were thoroughly verified before the final vote.
Kumari's removal marks a dramatic turn in Visakhapatnam's municipal politics. She had held the position for nearly four years, a term that faced mounting criticism over alleged corruption and administrative shortcomings. Detractors pointed to inefficiencies in civic management and failure to implement key development projects as core reasons for the vote of no confidence.
With the mayoral seat now officially vacant, the NDA is set to elect a new mayor this coming Sunday. This change in leadership is expected to redefine the direction of governance and development priorities in one of Andhra Pradesh’s most significant urban centers.
The upcoming election will be closely watched, as political observers speculate on who will take charge of the coastal city and how the new leadership will address the administrative challenges left in the wake of Kumari’s tenure.
