Amaravati, April 2025 – Andhra Pradesh IT and Development Minister Nara Lokesh has made a strong public statement against the rising threat of online betting apps, declaring the state government’s commitment to eliminate their influence.
The Minister responded to a post on X (formerly Twitter), which highlighted the dangers of betting apps and their impact on individuals and families. Lokesh expressed concern that these apps are ruining lives, especially among the youth, who are becoming addicted to gambling and falling into financial and emotional distress.
“Betting apps are destroying lives. Youth are becoming slaves to gambling. I’ve heard hundreds of heartbreaking stories. This must stop,” Lokesh stated in his reply.
He further added that he and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan are working together to develop a comprehensive anti-betting policy that could serve as a model for the entire nation. The focus, Lokesh emphasized, will be on both awareness and enforcement.
“Long-term solutions require consistent awareness and strict legal action. We are exploring all available legal measures to eliminate this digital threat,” he affirmed.
The AP government’s tough stance reflects growing concern about the surge in online gambling, driven by misleading advertising and false promises of easy wealth. The proposed policy aims to include digital surveillance tools, awareness campaigns, and legal reforms targeting both users and service providers.
As part of its broader digital safety strategy, Andhra Pradesh seeks to lead the way in ensuring a betting-free, secure online environment for its citizens.
