The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), supported by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA), is undertaking a major road-upgradation programme covering approximately 228 km of roads across eight constituencies in Visakhapatnam.

The programme involves upgrading gravel and Water Bound Macadam (WBM) roads to bituminous concrete (BT) or cement concrete (CC) standards, along with end-to-end pavements and allied infrastructure. The works also include around 34 km of central medians, more than 1,550 street lights and improvements to important junctions.

 

The road improvement programme is also receiving technical support from the CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI). Experts are expected to assist with pavement quality, road safety, weak and waterlogged ground conditions, pedestrian facilities, road audits and long-term road asset management.
