South Coast Railway (SCoR) has confirmed that drinking water supplied across its network is safe for consumption following an intensive week-long quality monitoring drive. The inspection covered 3,680 water-supply checkpoints across four divisions, including railway stations, residential quarters and hospitals in Visakhapatnam.

Officials checked 3,441 distribution points for residual chlorine levels, with all locations meeting the required chlorination standards. Health teams also collected 211 water samples from passenger areas and medical facilities for bacteriological testing, with no positive results for E. coli or coliform contamination.

 

The railway zone also conducted 28 comprehensive chemical tests covering parameters such as pH, total dissolved solids and heavy metals. All samples were reported to be within permissible limits. SCoR General Manager Sandeep Mathur said daily residual chlorine checks and surprise inspections would continue to maintain water quality across the network.
