GVMC's Ambitious Plan to Introduce AC Buses on BRTS Routes

Visakhapatnam: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is considering a proposal to introduce air-conditioned buses on the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) routes in Visakhapatnam, according to GVMC Deputy Mayor Jiyyani Sridhar.

A delegation comprising 73 corporators and 16 GVMC staff recently embarked on a study tour to Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab from September 10 to 17.

Upon returning from the study tour, Deputy Mayor Sridhar shared with the media that AC buses are currently operational on the BRTS routes in Srinagar, and they are exploring the possibility of implementing a similar initiative in Visakhapatnam.

During the tour, the delegation also observed how certain municipalities were employing technology to maintain and clean their water bodies. This innovative approach may also be considered for implementation in Visakhapatnam's water bodies, such as Mudasarlova and Megahdrigedda, as per the Deputy Mayor's statement.

Banala Srinivasa Rao, the YSRCP's floor leader in GVMC, mentioned that the GVMC corporators and officials had the opportunity to study best practices from various municipal corporations in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.

He explained that officials from these local bodies presented their innovative practices in areas such as sanitation, drinking water supply, greenery development, transportation, underground drainage systems, sewage treatment, and more.

A comprehensive report summarizing the observations from this study tour will be prepared for future reference when undertaking innovative projects within the city, added Banala Srinivasa Rao.
