Heavy Rain Brings Relief to Vizag, But Causes Disruptions

After weeks of scorching summer heat, Vizag finally received moderate to heavy rainfall, offering much-needed relief to the city’s residents. The showers, which began late Tuesday evening, continued through Wednesday, bringing down the temperatures significantly across the coastal city.

While the rainfall has helped ease the oppressive heat and improved air quality, it also led to several disruptions in daily life. Multiple areas in the city experienced:

  • Waterlogging in low-lying neighborhoods.

  • Traffic jams and slow-moving vehicles on major roads due to slippery surfaces and clogged drains.

  • Uprooted trees and fallen branches, causing minor property damage in some localities.

  • Temporary power outages in certain areas affected by snapped power lines.

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has deployed emergency response teams to clear waterlogged roads, remove fallen trees, and restore normalcy. Citizens are advised to remain cautious while commuting and to avoid flood-prone areas during heavy downpours.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more heavy showers for Vizag and surrounding coastal districts through June 12. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to rough conditions.

Despite the inconveniences, many residents welcomed the rain as a break from the summer heatwave that had gripped the region for several weeks.
