HPCL's Visakha Refinery all set for Rs. 26,264 crores expansion, modernization



Visakha Refinery Modernization Project (VRMP) in Visakhapatnam has got an approval of RS.26,264 crores.

A question raised by BJP MP GVL Narasimha Rao, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli told the expansion of the refinery will boost its capacity to 15 million metric tonne per annum (MMTPA) from the existing 8.3 MMTPA.

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli told VRMP is the largest expansion projects undertaken by the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited that is expected to be completed in the current financial year. 


The project will have multiple benefits and impact, including supplying Bharat Stage-VI compliant motor fuels, enhancing energy security due to increased refining capacity, enhancing refinery complexity and conversion efficiency, Union Minister informed.

It is also known that this expansion will also generate direct and indirect employment during the construction phases.
