Apple has unveiled its Watch for Kids service in India, expanding its innovative features to a younger audience.

This service is compatible with Apple Watch SE, Apple Watch Series 4, and later variants, offering parents a reliable way to stay connected with their children, monitor their whereabouts, and track their health and fitness.

Seamless Connectivity and Safety:

Designed for parents who prefer not to give their children mobile phones, the Apple Watch for Kids ensures seamless calling and texting, even if the child does not have an iPhone. According to Apple, "Apple Watch For Your Kids is available in India on cellular models of Apple Watch Series 4 or later or Apple Watch SE, paired with iPhone 8 or later running the latest watchOS and iOS." 

The watch brings essential communication, health, fitness, and safety features to kids and family members without iPhones. Parents can set up the watch through their iPhones, allowing easy calling and texting capabilities.

Location Tracking and Encrypted Data:

With this new feature, parents can keep track of their children's locations while ensuring that all personal data remains securely encrypted. Apple allows parents to approve all contacts, ensuring kids can use communication features safely.

Health and Safety for the Entire Family:

Beyond children, the entire family can benefit from the Apple Watch's vital health and safety features. These include Emergency SOS, Maps, Siri, Alarms, and the App Store, providing greater independence without needing an iPhone.

Kids using the Apple Watch for Kids will have their own phone number through a separate cellular plan and their own Apple ID. Apple notes that a wireless service plan is required for cellular service, currently available through Jio in India.

Additional Features for Kids:

Children can follow schedules and family events using the calendar feature, manage tasks with reminders, and view photo albums synced from a guardian’s iPhone. Additionally, the App Store on Apple Watch allows kids to download third-party apps directly, with parents managing what is available for download.
