Know about the Padma Shri awardee, Sunkara Venkata Adinarayana Rao, a prominent orthopedic in Vizag
Sunkara Venkata Adinarayana Rao, an 82 year old Orthopedic surgeon from the city of destiny is very much known for his work for the poor people. The doctor has won many awards in his six decades of service. He has been conferred Padma Shri award for extending services for thousands of polio victims.
Mr. Adinarayana Rao was born in Bhimavaram of West Godavari district on June 30th in 1939. His parents were freedom fighters Kanakam and Seshamma. He did MBBS in 1966 and he got his Master’s degree in Orthopedic surgery for Andhra medical college in 1970.
He married the former superintendent of King George Hospital, R Sasiprabha. He won many national and international awards for his commendable services.
Currently, he is the managing trustee of Free Polio Surgical and Research Foundation. He might be a South Indian, but he is very popularly known in North India for his treatment for polio victims.
Mr. Adinarayana Rao has performed more than one lakh surgeries till date.
In 2014, Mr. Adinarayana Rao received the National award for child welfare from the President of India. He also got a national award for his welfare for disabled persons in 1988 from Prime Minister of India.
He also won Madras Telugu academy award and Mahaveer foundation national award.
He is a football lover and he was the president of Visakhapatnam district football association for more than 30 years. He is the one who popularized Visakha Trophy national football championship.
