Late Mekapati Goutham Reddy’s achievements and political journey
Late Mekapati Goutham Reddy is a popular business tycoon from Andhra Pradesh. He served as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Atmakur Assembly constituency from 2014 until his death in 2022 (he was elected twice as the MLA).
In 2019 he took charge as Hon’ble Minister for Industries, Commerce, Information Technology, Skill Development and Training, Infrastructure, and Investments.
Mekapati Goutham Reddy was born on 2 November, 1971 to Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy and Mani Manjari. He is a native of Brahmanapalli village in Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh. His father, Rajamohan Reddy, was a former Member of Parliament (MP) of the Nellore Lok Sabha constituency.
He pursued Master's in Apparel and Textiles from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. After his studies, he has been managing KMC Constructions since 1997. There are a group of companies he is managing for road construction, real estate, and infrastructure sectors.
They include KMC Road Holdings, KMC Infratech, Guruvayoor Infrastructure, Brindavan Infrastructure, Krishnarjuna Real Estates, Andaman Angling Agency, Pink City Expressway, Rayalaseema Expressway, and North Malabar Expressway.
As a Minter of Industries and Commerce, he set an agenda focusing on the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This was for various thrust sectors like electric vehicles, textiles, electronics, food processing, infrastructure, and skill development.
Andhra Pradesh has seen a 40% increase in employment in the IT/ITeS sector between 2019 and Dec 2021. He brought fifteen new investment proposals under Electronics System Development and Maintenance (ESDM) sector during his term as the minister.
He inaugurated the Centre of Excellence for the Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Visakhapatnam.
Mekapati Goutham Reddy made efforts in framing new policies in the industrial and IT sectors. He viewed IT to be the factor that would transform Andhra Pradesh to be a trillion-dollar economy. He led a delegation team to Dubai Expo in February, 2022 to attract investments for Andhra Pradesh. On 21 February, 2022 he died due to cardiac arrest. His contribution to the state of AP and his efforts to uplift the IT sector can never be forgotten by the people.
