LG Polymers Announces Additional ₹120 Crore Relief for Vizag Gas Leak Victims
Visakhapatnam: LG Polymers India has pledged an additional ₹120 crore in relief for the victims of the 2020 styrene gas leak at its Visakhapatnam plant, which claimed 12 lives and injured many others.
Corporate Communications Head Paul, alongside Vizag MP M. Sri Bharat, Visakhapatnam West MLA P.V.G.R. Naidu, and District Collector M.N. Harinder Prasad, announced that the relief would be distributed in two phases.
The first phase will allocate ₹60 crore directly to the victims, while the second phase will use the remaining ₹60 crore to improve basic amenities in the seven affected villages. This includes creating a pollution-free environment, improving access to drinking water, and enhancing health facilities.
MP Bharat highlighted that issues in the area had been overlooked, but Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s efforts brought the company forward with this additional relief. MLA Naidu echoed this sentiment, noting the dissatisfaction of victims with the initial compensation and praising the current initiative to address their concerns.
District Collector Harinder Prasad confirmed that the relief will benefit 6,121 affected families in the surrounding villages.
