Mr. P. Rajababu took over as the new GVMC commissioner, succeeding Dr. G. Lakshmisha

Dr. G Lakshmisha, the GVMC commissioner, has been transferred and is now appointed as the managing director and special officer of the AP Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APUFIDC). P.Raja Babu, a 2013 batch IAS officer, has been appointed as the new Commissioner of GVMC.
Mr. P. Rajababu previously held the same position in addition to his current position as commissioner of the Transport Department. He is yet to be relieved from that role.
This decision came as a surprise because Dr. Lakshmisha had not yet completed one year of service as a GVMC commissioner after being appointed on October 30, 2021. His efforts to ban single-use plastics were widely praised. In the Mann Ki Baat speech about plastic containment measures, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also mentioned Vizag City and the efforts in place to ban plastic usage.
