Nari Shakti Purasakar for Vizag Professor, Prasanna Sree
Nari Shakti Puraskar for the year 2020-21 has been presented by Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapathi Bhavan on Tuesday on the occasion of International Women’s Day to Andhra University professor, Sathupati Prasanna Sree.
Professor Prasanna is an Indian linguist who worked a lot for preserving the tribal languages and developed a new writing system for tribal languages.
She also made it to the Indian Book of records for creating standard orthography for tribal languages.
She is the first woman in the world to devise scripts for 19 tribal languages like Bhagatha, Gadabha, Kolami, Konda Dora, Jhatapu, Porja etc.
Prasanna is the first Indian and Asian woman to be featured in World Atlas of Endangered Alphabets, USA (2019).
Prasanna also won a place in the ‘World Atlas of Endangered Alphabets’ for developing alphabets for these tribal languages.
